Consent form for Paired-Associate Task
I understand that my participation in this study is voluntary and that I may refuse to participate or withdraw from the study at anytime without penalty.
I am a student enrolled in Dr. Jan Cioe's Psychology 360
course [Research Methods and Statistics].
You have been asked to
participate in a psychological study we call "Paired-Associate Task." The
purpose of the study is to measure your ability to learn a short list of word
pairs. You will be presented with a set of 15 noun pairs for 10 seconds each.
Your task will be to try to learn as many of the word pairs as possible. Shortly
after you complete this study part of the task, you will be presented with the
first word in a pair and then asked to tell me what is the second word in that
pair. The test session will present the word prompts in an order different from
the one you were first given. The entire process will take about 15 minutes of
your time.
The results of this study will be part of a larger data pool
which the students in the class will use to write up a research report as part
of their course work. Your name will not be used in reporting the results. Only
group data will be used. Your results will kept confidential and destroyed after
the data have been collated.
If you wish to withdraw from this study you
may do so at any time without penalty. You will be acquainted in this study with
a number of ways of learning verbal material. The students of Psychology 360
will benefit from your participation by acquiring direct experience in data
collection, analysis, and interpretation.
